DELTA Course Module 2
DELTA Module 2 is the most practical, demanding and transformative component of the certification. It’s not an exam: it’s a multi-month process where your teaching practice is documented, observed, assessed and reformulated against Cambridge standards.
If Module 1 proves that you know, Module 2 proves that you teach with professional judgement: you plan with theoretical justification, deliver assessed lessons and research your own practice rigorously. It’s the module that permanently changes the way you see your work in the classroom.
What does DELTA Module 2 assess?
Unlike the CELTA, where you learn fundamentals, Module 2 already assumes you teach with reasonable competence. The challenge is to professionalise that work to the highest standard.
Module 2 assesses your advanced teaching practice across four dimensions:
Detailed and justified planning of lessons.
Effective implementation of that planning with real students.
Critical reflection on your own practice grounded in ELT literature.
Autonomous professional development: ability to identify and work on your improvement areas.
Module 2 components
Language Systems Assignments
You plan, teach and reflect on four formally assessed lessons, each focusing on a different skill area (grammar, vocabulary, receptive skills, productive skills) and accompanied by an academically grounded background essay.
Professional Development Assignment (PDA)
An autonomous professional development project where you identify an improvement area in your own practice, research the literature, design an intervention plan, implement it and evaluate results.
Reflective Practice and Experimental Practice
Throughout the module you develop systematic reflective practice and experiment with new techniques or approaches, documenting impact on your students.
